History

From Constructors and Radnički to Sevojno

In the middle of May 1950 began a building of Valjaonica bakra premises. Typical for these times was major engagement of youth in rebuliding of the country, thus happened in this case as well. Sport constituted an integral part of daily activities, and already one month later, (on June 25), Conctructors played their first off-competition football game against Sloboda from Uzice. They left ground situated in one field above Mejug proudly. First match, first triumph. They won 1:0.

Sport was nourished, developed, improved and continuously reorganized. Meanwhile, the ambitious sports officials led by Rade Popović and Raco Jovović, building site heads, founded on July 7, 1951 the Football Club Radnički. Then on August 2, Radnički "tryed their skills" against Borac from Cacak. Inspite of being defeated 2:3, the new club made great impression playing on the ground in Sevojno.

On May 17, 1952 Radnički beat the Contractors 7:3. During this season club started taking part in official competitions in the Football League of the Uzice region. Their first championship game was against Zlatibor from Čajetina, when Radnički scored 2:0 victory.

The following years were the years of success and in 1957 the club became a member of a higher league - the zone of Kragujevac.

hrough establishment of the Sports Association Sevojno in 1961, the Football Club continued to exist and work under original name FK Sevojno, which remained till present days.

Very next important historical period for the club was 68/69 season, introducing competitions within Interregional League Užice/Čačak, when the club joined Second League of Serbia after finishing second on the table. This was the best result of the

Football Club in its history till then. The team sustained for three consecutive seasons on this stage, after which it took part in Moravsko-Sumadijska competitions (up to season 76/77), Regional and Interregional League, and entered repeated the Second League of Serbia, where playing during 89/90 season. A year later, Sevojno changed again to Moravsko-Šumadijska division, staying foremost there up to season 95/96, then joining West Serbian League-Morava Group. They remained in this league until becoming a member of the First Serbian Telekom League.

In this decade Sevojno gained greatest score. In the season 04/05 they managed to qualify for newly founded First League of Serbia. After reaching the second place of the West Serbian League, just behind Radnički from Kragujevac, Sevojno qualified for the first national league. In the first round, they defeated Železničar from Niš 7:1, whereas second leg in Niš couldn’t be held because of medical difficulties of home players. In the second round Sevojno triumphed against Radnički from Obrenovac and scored 3:0 and 1:0 in both legs. This was the first time in clubs history as it gained promotion to the newly founded First League of Serbia.

In their first season in this league, Sevojno already were the one of greatest competition surprises. They finished the following competition season seventh, and only for the reason of unhappy mutual score to Radnički from Pirot, the participation in qualifying matches for Meridian Super League failed to come.

**********

Beginning of the new season and time for first evaluation of ones position is mostly the firm base upon which plans can be made and aimed goals and tasks can be determined. Sevojno were not completely aware of their possibilities during 2007/08, however having recognized that after the Marko Pavićević injury at the start of competition and leaving of Filip Arsenijević (and several first squad players too) during the "break time", they wouldn't be able to go forward. Although points gained after the first competition part were not deficient, the club struggled to maintain its position, since the new players were not an adequate replacement for the ones that have left the club. Anyway, the position was "secured" only in last round.

Sevojno scored greatest results so far under the leadership of Ljubiša Stamenković, thus the club management made maximum efforts to get the coach back from Smederevo. In the summer 2008 he returned finally into the team and started to rebuild the squad, retaining only a few existing players. Stamenković got back to Sevojno players he fully trusted in earlier seasons.

He also signed a several new additions, which already paid off as Sevojno went on to win the first championship games, and after three rounds finished on the top. They were winning, so the plans and objective to qualify for Super League became reasonable. Considering projected competition reorganization in order to enable promotion of the first top teams of the First League into upper range, it was clear enough this was serious and real opportunity for teams to go forward.

Championship matches were played and Sevojno began permanently to loose points in final match stages, thus being more and more far from the upper competition range. Yet a new chance occured in April, when the team won four times in a row. Players and their "teacher" Stamenković fought to the end, but the failure couldn't be equalized thus finnishing the season seventh.

In season 09/10 the team will compete in the First League of Serbia. The kick-off is announced for August 15.

On the other hand, participating in Serbian Lav Cup the team ranked among the central national football events. Reaching semi-final of the Serbian Lav Cup they already gained sensational result, but by defeateing renowned Crvena Zvezda/ Red Star at Valjaonica stadium on Đurđevdan, serbian religious celebration, Sevojno proved their respectworth quality.

Sevojno managed to qualify for the Serbian Lav Cup final in a extremly tough way, beating four rivals from the higher competition range - Hajduk from Kula, Borac from Čačak, Napredak from Kruševac and Red Star, the most honoured national club.

In final on May 21, Sevojno met Partizan, the double Cup winner. Sevojno struggled hard up to 60. minute of the game, yet the Partizan's quality prevailed and they deserved the triumph. As a Cup finalist, and as Partizan won both Cup and the championship, Sevojno got the opportunity to play qualifying games for the UEFA European League, beginning with a match against Kaunas from Lithuania in second qualifying round.

The club set very high priorities and we beleive the time will soon come for matches in national championship against our most successful teams.

Besides of the professional team, there are other departments too, classified according to age, such as youth division, cadets, pioneers, under ten players, and school of football. Club consists of several teams with about 130 players.

Supported mostly by Valjaonica bakra Sevojno AD (but also by other organizations), the club made significant improvement during last few years. The playground has been equipped with new seating places, envisaged is also building of an auxiliary pitch, closed training facility, fitness room, etc. Compared to initial organizational situation, the club is nowadays on much higher level.

Notable sports officers, coaches and footballers have left visible traces on FC Sevojno history. At this place we couldn’t name all of them without missing somebody unjustified out.
